My full-time work experiences were with I.U. School of Medicine (IUSM). IUSM has had one main campus and eight satellite medical education centers since the 1960s; it has the largest enrollment of any American medical school. I worked for IUSM, starting as a lecturer, and ending as a professor, four ranks later.

 

To keep my work life interesting and challenging, I had assignments at four of the nine IUSM campuses. My assignments transitioned from teaching and research emphasis in the early years and progressed to administrative assignments (beginning as Assistant Director and ending as Assistant Dean).

 

We utilized some of the standard personality tests, on a volunteer basis, for faculty and students to assess individual learning styles, potential medical career choices and personality traits. I learned that my personality type is an “Influencer” and my possible career paths include becoming a professor, a preacher, a politician or a planner/administrator. So far, I’ve done three of the four!

 

My favorite assignments are in planning/administration. I enjoy people contact and I love creating new programs, partnerships and funds sourcing. I recently decided to return to work, part-time, and I created Working Wise Consulting, LLC. Projects that I’ll seek will be in my three personal strength realms: fund- and friend raising, marketing and lobbying. I believe with a growing U.S. work force, expanding entrepreneurial opportunities and infrastructure projects that there are many business leaders who will welcome these services that I provide.
